Helpful Hygiene Hints for Invisalign Patients

Invisalign is a clear, removable alternative orthodontic treatment which uses a series of plastic aligning trays to give you the straight, healthy smile you have always dreamed of.

One of the greatest advantages to using Invisalign is that it provides maximum results with minimal impact on your everyday life. Invisalign is comfortable, easy to insert, and simple to remove. Because you can remove Invisalign aligners, you can enjoy all your favorite foods and beverages without worries about getting food stuck in the wires and brackets of traditional braces.

However, to achieve the most desirable outcome for your smile, it is important to properly care for your teeth during your Invisalign treatment.  Using Invisalign may require some adjustments to your oral hygiene routine that will ultimately benefit your overall oral health.

Hygiene items needed:

  • Soft bristled toothbrush (one for home and one for work or school)
  • Dental Floss
  • Mouthwash
  • Non whitening toothpaste

Routine to be repeated after each meal or snack daily:

  • Brush your trays without toothpaste (to prevent abrasion damage to tray)
  • Rinse the trays under warm water or with mouthwash to kill germs and bacteria that might be lurking in the crevices
  • Brush your teeth with the tray out
  • Floss
  • Rinse with mouthwash for odor control

Caring for your smile while wearing Invisalign goes beyond just waiting for your teeth to get straighter. It involves cleaning your teeth regularly and thoroughly to prevent tooth decay. That way, your smile will be more beautiful than ever when you’re done with your Invisalign treatment.
